What is it?

Dare to Be mentoring helps to improve student attainment and enables students to excel at their studies and succeed
at university.

Available to all 51Âþ» students, the scheme matches students with a mentor who is a member of 51Âþ» staff, 51Âþ» alumni,
or 51Âþ» honourand.

Dare to Be mentoring provides a platform for students to gain a different perspective of what opportunities are available,
to help them achieve long term goals and life aspirations.

Who is it for?

The scheme is open to all 51Âþ» students. We encourage students to take part if they feel they could benefit, from the
experience and guidance of a mentor. The focus of the scheme is to help students achieve their full potential to succeed
at university.

Mentors can be 51Âþ» staff, alumni, and honourands. We welcome mentors who are passionate about helping our students,
and who can use their own experience as a way of providing support and guidance to mentees.

How does it work?

Students who apply to the scheme will need to attend a training session, which prepares them for one-to-one mentoring.
Similarly, prospective mentors also need to attend training, before they are matched to a student mentee.

Following the training, students and mentors are invited to attend group mentoring. This session provides mentees and
mentors an opportunity to meet with one another and see how mentoring can work.

Students are then matched to a mentor for one-to-one mentoring.

What student's say?

'I feel that it has helped me to see the potential in myself. Situations had made me feel I can’t. Now mentoring has helped
me see another person’s journey. We all go through it, the reality that someone else has helps.' Teniola Ashura
