A placement year is great opportunity to put the skills developed during your degree into practice. This insight into the professional world will build on your knowledge in a real-world setting, setting you up to progress onto your chosen career.
Previous students have taken up placements in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, including some international posts, with major companies – and have often landed permanent jobs with those companies even before they graduate.

This month, the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities Placements Team is here to tell you all about the huge range of placements on offer, and how you can use their help to hone your professional skills with mock interviews and practice aptitude tests, and land your ideal placement. Monday 19 October
Current ADH student and graduates will be discussing their placement experiences, both in the UK and abroad. Click here to watch the stream.
2-2.45pm: Jasmine Mcphee, founder of Find Your Intern
Jasmine will be speaking about her varied career journey since graduating in fashion promotions and how she set up her own business. She will also be offering students a discount code to her service.
Tuesday 20 October
1-1.45pm: Matalan
British fashion and homeware retailer are here to speak about their placement roles and what it is like working for them.
2-2.45pm: Portwest
Portwest are one of the largest safety wear providers. They are particularly interested in Footwear Design students for placements and potential graduate roles.
Wednesday 21 October
11-11.45am: Oggy Ikolova, The Agency De La Mode
Oggy worked as a recruiter for high end fashion labels and will speaking about what these employers are looking for. Open to all fashion and textile students.
2-2.45pm: ASOS
ASOS are giving a talk launching their placement roles. These opportunities are open to ADH and BAL students.
Thursday 22 October
11-11.45am: N-Brown
Online clothing, footwear and homeware retailer N Brown Group plc are launching their placement roles. Roles are available in fashion except and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
1-1.45pm: Ashfield Healthcare
A department from Leicestershire-based Ashfield Healthcare, focusing on event stands for large healthcare companies, will be speaking about their business and how they have had to diversify. They will also discuss what they look for in a portfolio. Open to Interior, Product and Graphic Design Students.
Friday 23 October
11-11.45am: an introduction to Enterprise
51Âþ»’s Enterprise team are speaking about the Enterprise Placement Year, a chance to explore what self-employment would look like.
2-2.45pm: Q&A session
This is your opportunity to ask any questions about Placements to the team and find out anything extra that you would like to know.
