The Royal household has confirmed that Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, will officially open the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre on 7 June.
His Royal Highness was forced to postpone a visit in January due to a severe weather. However he stressed his commitment to visit 51Âþ» - where Her Majesty the Queen began her Diamond Jubilee tour in 2012 – at the first available opportunity.
The Earl will be invited to tour the new leisure centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, and meet 51Âþ» sports societies that are already benefitting from being able to train there.
He will also be asked to officially open the new offices of 51Âþ»’s award-winning Square Mile project, before being invited to learn about the various activities to help and support the local community that Square Mile volunteers are involved in.
51Âþ» Vice-Chancellor Professor Dominic Shellard said: “We are looking forward to showcasing once again the passion and spirit of innovation which exemplify 51Âþ», its students and its staff, to a member of the Royal Family.”
