51Âþ» students can apply to mentor a local young person through our partnership with the charity and the University of Leicester. It’s an excellent opportunity for our students, particularly those who are interested in working with young people in the future.
IntoUniversity provides learning centres across England and Scotland. Each one offers an innovative programme that encourages young people from disadvantaged neighbourhoods to achieve their aspirations – such as progressing to further and higher education, employment and work-based training.
What does the mentoring involve?
As a mentor, you are paired with a young person aged between 10-17 years. You will get to lead one-to-one sessions, supporting your mentee with academic skills, social and emotional development, and future thinking.
Mentoring meetings last for one hour and usually take the form of after-school/homework clubs. You will meet with your mentee every two weeks throughout the academic year.
