Volunteer for the Aylestone Meadows BioBlitz


Are you interested in learning more about nature in your local community and helping to conserve wildlife in and around Leicester? 

The , hosted by the Canal & River Trust in partnership with 51Âþ»­ and the University of Leicester, is an opportunity for you to get involved with mapping species richness and diversity in the heart of Leicester.

We are looking for volunteers to help identify the variety of flora (plant life)  and fauna (animal life) within Aylestone Meadows in Leicester on Wednesday 31 May, from 10am to 3pm. 

Spotting sessions will run from 10am to 2pm and 1 - 3pm. You are welcome to join both, but please make sure you register for each session separately.

Upon arrival, spotting groups will be allocated to attendees on a first-come first-served basis. Groups include a mix of fauna and flora; including mammals, aquatic invertebrates, aquatic plants, birds, butterflies, wildflower, grasses, and lichens.

The site is accessible from 51Âþ»­ by:

  • Bike (approx 15 minutes via the Great Central Way cycle route),
  • Walking (approx 40 minutes along the canal), 
  • Public transport (approx 20-25 minutes).

Lunch is not provided, so please bring your own if staying over the lunch break. There is a cafe on site at the St Andrews Football Club.
