Due to popular demand, students and staff can continue to enjoy a free breakfast on campus every weekday until the end of the summer term.
Following a campaign from (DSU), the initiative launched in January and was originally due to run for three months. The scheme proved popular, with more than 700 staff and students claiming a free breakfast every day, and so the offer will now run until Friday 16 June.
Aliya Khan, DSU’s Welfare Executive Officer, said: “This extension of the free breakfasts is fantastic news from 51Âþ» - we welcome their ongoing collaboration with us and support for our students.
“After recently conducting a cost-of-living survey, the number one request from students was for support with the provision of food. By offering a free breakfast, we’re taking some of that financial pressure off students, as well as ensuring they don’t go without at least one hot meal a day.
“51Âþ» acted quickly in getting this initiative up and running and has worked with us every step of the way. We’re very fortunate as a student body to have this level of support.”
Available at the Food Village from 8-10am, Monday to Friday, the offer is for one free breakfast per person per day from the following options:
Food (your choice of one of the below)
- Cereal with milk
- Toast (up to two slices) with butter and jam
- Porridge with sugar, syrup or sultanas
- Toast (one slice) with beans or egg
Drinks (your choice of one of the below)
- Tea (8oz)
- Orange juice carton
- Apple juice carton
Students and staff will need to show their 51Âþ» ID card at the till to claim their free breakfast. Other food and drink items will be available to buy at their usual prices and this offer can’t be used to offset their cost.
We will work to ensure that all free options are available every day, but there may be occasions where some are unavailable or alternatives are provided.
