International Welcome Week 2020


From Monday 21 to Friday 25 September we will be welcoming all of our international students to 51Âþ»­ with a week full of virtual sessions.

The sessions will cover a wide range of topics including 51Âþ»­ Local, 51Âþ»­ Sport, 51Âþ»­ Music and much more.

All sessions will be online and available from the comfort of your own home. You can find all of the videos on the Your 51Âþ»­ Future international students pages.

All videos will be live on the day and time stated below.

Monday 21 September

10am

Welcome to 51Âþ»­
An introduction to some of the things that you'll need to do after you've arrived on campus, and answers to some Frequently Asked Questions. This session will also include information around essential skills you will need to develop while studying at 51Âþ»­ including English language classes and information from Library and Learning services.

12pm

Mindfulness session
A guided mindfulness session to help you focus on the here and now. Mindfulness can help to improve concentration and regular mindful practice can boost our feelings of wellbeing, helping to manage the distractions in our day to day life.

2pm

51Âþ»­ Local and 51Âþ»­ Global
Volunteering at 51Âþ»­ can help change and improve the lives of people in the community.

51Âþ»­ Global offers a wide range of international experiences right here on campus as well as overseas.

7pm

DSU Quiz Night
Join De Montfort Students’ Union for a fun filled quiz!

Tuesday 22 September

11am

QE2 Leisure Centre
Find out more about the 51Âþ»­’s Leisure Centre and how you can become a member.

Careers and Employability
The Careers and Employability team will discuss the options available to students for placements, internships and more.

Volunteering at 51Âþ»­ can help change and improve the lives of people in the community.

Wednesday 23 September

How to manage your money
Student Finance and Welfare have created a helpful guide which includes costs of living in the UK and how budgeting may help you to manage these costs.  We've also created a video about our service and how to book an appointment.

51Âþ»­ Open Faith
Imam Mohammed Laher & Fr. Johannes Arens will welcome all students to 51Âþ»­ and will provide more information on the religious services available at 51Âþ»­.

Thursday 24 September

51Âþ»­ Sport introduction
51Âþ»­Sport is here to support you to engage in a wide range of sporting activity and programs at 51Âþ»­. Opportunities include recreational sport (called 51Âþ»­active), club training, inter university competition, and performance sport through our scholarship scheme.

Friday 25 September

An introduction to some of the things that you'll need to do after you've arrived on campus, and answers to some Frequently Asked Questions. This session will also include information around essential skills you will need to develop while studying at 51Âþ»­ including English language classes and information from Library and Learning services.

This session will conclude with information from Dr.Nguyen on the role of the NHS and how to access services.
