People Organisations and Work Institute Postgraduate and Research Study Options
The People, Organisations and Work Institute at 51Âþ» is a vibrant and collegial research centre within the Faculty of Business and Law, which brings together academics in the fields of work, employment relations and human resource management. The institute seeks to contribute to contemporary debates in the broad areas of work and employment, and management and leadership within organisations.
Research activities are based upon seven core themes. HRM, skills and performance; International and comparative research; Equality, diversity and identity; Leadership, culture and organisations; Rethinking routine service work; Employee voice and managing change; and Work and development in the global south. We have a thriving community of doctoral students, and we encourage applications to study for a PhD linked to our core themes.We particularly welcome applications on the themes of The political economy of skills, innovation and job quality; HRM, employment relations and performance in a global context; Service work; Management and leadership (including the African context); Equality, diversity and identity in organisations.

Scholarship call 2022
The People, Organisations and Work Institute (POWI) invites applications from suitably-qualified candidates wishing to study for a PhD at 51Âþ», Leicester as part of the university’s recently announced scholarships scheme.
Applications are welcomed in any area of study related to human resource management and contemporary work and employment that links to the institute’s core areas of expertise and which also addresses 51Âþ»’s five priority themes: peace, equality and social justice; creative and heritage industries; lifelong wellbeing; living in a digital society; and net zero. Applicants thinking of applying in an area that might be supervised by POWI are encouraged to send an outline proposal of no more than 1000 words to Dr Chibuzo Ejiogu (chibuzo.ejiogu@dmu.ac.uk). This should set out clearly the proposed aims of the project, the research questions, rationale and methods, and explain how this links to the interests of POWI and 51Âþ»’s thematic areas. Applicants are encouraged to identify a potential supervisor who might work with them in taking forward the proposal to a full application.
