De Montfort Students' Union (DSU) is student-run and led. Each year, a team of  are elected, with the aim of representing your academic interests, getting you involved in exciting events and inspiring you to make the most of your time at university.

The DSU is a key aspect of student life here at 51Âþ»­, all the way from welcome week and freshers week, to the very end of your degree, where you will be able to enjoy affordable food, games, events and nightlife right in the centre of campus. There is so much on offer to enhance your student experience and is a brilliant way to step out of your comfort zone, learn new skills and meet lifelong friends.

With over 90 student groups and societies, getting involved with the DSU to discover new exciting hobbies and talents is one of the best ways to enrich your university experience. You will find societies based around common interests such as Anime, Dance, Comics, Music, Pole Fitness, societies based around religious and cultural backgrounds such as African and Caribbean Society, Christian Union, Indian Society and Hindu society, and societies based on academic courses. There is something for everyone to join and find their community. .

51Âþ»­ Sport delivers a wide range of opportunities to help students stay physically active and look after their mental health.  

You do not have to be a ‘sporty’ person, in fact thousands of students get involved every year, trying new activities, meeting new people, taking a break from studies and learning new sports.

Whether you’re a beginner, casual player or are interested in representing 51Âþ»­ in a competitive sport, you can find an opportunity that’s right for you.

51Âþ»­active is our recreational programme of sport and physical activity. There are a wide range of activities on offer across the week, evenings and weekends, such as free swimming lessons, Pilates, Climbing, Table Tennis, Running, Basketball, and more. These student-led sessions are a perfect opportunity for anyone looking to meet new people, learn a new skill, have some fun or just blow off some steam. And the best bit? This programme is completely FREE!

51Âþ»­-global

 is our international experience programme which aims to enrich studies, broaden cultural horizons and develop key skills valued by employers. Through 51Âþ»­ Global, we offer a wide range of exciting overseas, on-campus and online international experiences for students, including trips to Venice, New York and Dubai! 

You will also have the opportunity to learn languages including French, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese and more alongside your studies.

Public Engagement

Public Engagement at 51Âþ»­ allows students to make a difference, locally and globally, through a range of initiatives. Projects are delivered through the collaboration of the team, students and staff, and community partners to make a positive impact on peoples’ lives.  

You’ll be matched with an opportunity that will best help you to develop your skills, grow your network and gain valuable experience through volunteering, real life learning and student led projects.
