Our programme of classes is designed to offer a wide variety of sessions to suit most users in a social setting. All classes must be booked in advance and can be done via our app, (Search 51Âþ»­ Leisure on your device store) or through our  We are actively helping the university in reducing its carbon footprint by minimalizing the amount of printing we do, therefore timetables are only viewable online.

Non-members are only able to book 24 hours in advance of classes.

Gold and Silver members can book classes according to their membership product.

If you're unfamiliar with any of our classes, you can read a brief descriptions of each class before you book.

We really don’t want to turn you away, so please make sure you arrive at least 5-10 minutes before your class starts. For your safety, if you miss all or part of the warm-up you put yourself at higher risk of injury and as well as this arriving late disrupts the class for both instructors and other members. Set your alarm a little earlier to make sure you're on time.

Non-attendance fees

Due to limited spaces available for bookings there is a £4 charge for non-attendance for a booking without cancelling.

To confirm attendance you must swipe your access card or band at reception and allow turnstiles to open for you. You also need to use your card or band on your activity area (gym, pool, class studio). Failure to swipe your band will not register your attendance.

Cancelling a booking can be done as easy as making it, in the 51Âþ»­ Leisure app, by phone on 0116 250 6400 or by email at leisure@dmu.ac.uk. If you cancel by phone, please leave a voicemail confirming your name and booking time.

    Hi, it's Amanda! You’ll mostly find me teaching on Tuesday’s 6.30pm Lift and Tone, and on Wednesdays teaching Zumba 5.30pm and Abs blast at 6.30pm. Come and say hi!

    Hello my name is Jaina and I teach Aquacise on Thursday afternoons, Body Blitz and Piyo on Thursday evenings and Pilates on Friday afternoons.

    I make sure my classes are super enjoyable as I believe when you find a workout that you find fun, it doesn’t feel like exercise but rather a hobby! So come a long and you will really enjoy yourself!

    Hi I’m Keily, Spin has something for everyone! A great mix of strength and endurance from heart-pounding jumps to the epic climb.
    Join me every Wednesday from 12:15pm - 1pm.

    Fiziana

    Hi, I am Fiziana, and I teach the Spin and Strength class on Mondays. This high-energy class will challenge you and improve your fitness levels! I like to provide a class that improves endurance, strength, coordination, speed and agility, so expect surges, high-intensity intervals, hill climbs, and some fun!

Class descriptions

 

  1. Aquacise

    Aquacise is a full-body water-based workout that combines strength training and sequences. The water resistance allows you to challenge and strengthen your muscles while being easy on your joints, helping to enhance flexibility. You don’t need to be a good swimmer to join, be prepared for your body to splash, push, pull, and burn the calories away!

  2. Body Blitz

    An all over body workout combining high and low impact moves using body weight and weights.

  3. Body Sculpt

    Is a muscle toning class focusing on improving core strength, flexibility and burning calories by guiding you through a range of traditional training exercises. Exercises are low impact, and classes are fun and motivational for all levels of fitness.

  4. Bootcamp

    Bootcamp is an intense group workout that combines both cardio and strength/resistance training to tone and tighten from head-to-toe. Although physically demanding, participants of all fitness levels work together to achieve the results they deserve using well-researched methods like calisthenics and plyometrics.

  5. Boxercise

    Boxercise is an exercise concept based on the training methods used by boxers.

    Sessions typically involve hitting focus pads but no class involves hitting an opponent. It is a fun, challenging and safe workout which is great for stress busting, accessible to all fitness levels.

  6. DiscoFit

    Bring a night out to your workout! Fun easy-to-follow dance workout. Club anthems from 90s to today’s hits. The routines combine dance, toning and combat moves with options to suit all fitness levels. Classes are held in a darkened room with disco lights. Remember to bring your own glow sticks.

  7. Fusion Fit

    An all over body workout combining basic kickboxing moves, work on the step box and barbell work. Designed to improve fitness, toning and endurance.

  8. Kettlebells

    An all over body workout that helps to improve general fitness, strength and endurance by using a kettlebell weight. The kettlebells come in various different weights suitable for everyone.

  9. LBT

    Legs, bums and tums are the core focus of this class by using aerobic moves to strengthen and tone.

  10. Lift and Tone

    A full body workout of varied intensity using weighted equipment to increase muscle tone and make you stronger physically and mentally.

  11. Pilates and Tone

    Pilates and Tone is a whole body workout focusing on lengthening and stretching the muscles allowing them to become longer and leaner.

    Some of these exercises are performed with handheld weights which are optional, the benefits of using the weights helps to increase mobility, tone, flexibility and strength.

  12. PiYo

    Full body sequences that combine muscle sculpting benefits from Pilates, alongside strength and flexibility advantages in Yoga to deliver an intense but refreshing workout.

  13. Spin and Strength

    Spin and Strength is a high-energy class that will take your fitness to the next level. This dynamic session blends strength training with intense indoor cycling intervals to boost overall strength and cardiovascular endurance. Expect a combination of bodyweight movements, along with the use of dumbbells and kettlebells, for a full-body workout experience.
  14. Spinning

    A great way to build cardio endurance whilst burning calories on an indoor bike to music. Some of the Spinning classes include an ab workout at the end.

  15. Zumba

    A fun class that involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music.
