Professor Mike (Michail) Kagioglou
Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Business Innovation
Professor Mike Kagioglou is Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Business Innovation at 51Âþ» (51Âþ»). Mike is responsible for leading the university’s strategy and delivery of all areas related to research, enterprise and business innovation. He is currently the executive lead for the university’s 10-year masterplan, the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) and Chair of the Board for the Development of 51Âþ»’s London Campus, and oversees the faculties of Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM) and Health and Life Sciences (HLS).
Prior to joining 51Âþ», Mike was the Pro Vice-Chancellor Global Development (Europe and UK) and Dean of Engineering, Design and Built Environment at Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia. During his time at WSU Mike oversaw the successful merger of two schools, the delivery of the Parramatta Engineering Innovation Hub, the successful restructure of research with positive outcomes and impact, and significant partnerships including with Sydney Opera House. Mike developed and led WSU’s strategy in Europe and the UK with the establishment of key partnerships with universities and research/policy institutions.
Prior to WSU, Mike was Dean of the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield, and Head of the School of the Built Environment (SoBE) at the University of Salford.
Mike has been involved in more than £25 million of research across many funding agencies in the UK and Europe. He was an Academic Director for the £11 million Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded interdisciplinary Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (IMRC) in Health and Care Infrastructures Research and Innovation Centre (HaCIRIC). Mike was also previously the Director of the £8 million EPSRC at Salford Centre for Research and Innovation (SCRI) in the built and human environment. Mike has published more than 240 academic referred papers, industrial reports and three books.
Mike is the current chair of the Global Leadership Forum in Construction Engineering Management (GLF-CEM), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Fellow of the Royal Society in New South Wales (AUS) and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management.
Mike is currently the President of the Chartered Institute of Building, as its 121st President.
