Phil Clarke

Non-Executive Director, Riverford Organic Farmers

Phil Clarke was appointed a co-opted member of the Finance and Performance Committee in July 2022 after serving as a governor for three years from July 2019.

Phil graduated from Leicester Polytechnic, the institution that would later become 51Âþ»­, and has built an extensive career in both executive and non-executive roles, working for a number of high-profile brands in the retail sector. With his exceptional command of strategic finance, he specialises in maximising commercial growth and successfully delivering business change. 

As the Chief Operating Officer at the White Company, between 2012 and 2018, he has doubled the turnover and profit of the business. Phil was CFO of Ann Summers where he also led Property and Logistics strategies and, as CFO of Selfridges actively contributed to the repositioning as a globally-recognised brand. 

Currently, Phil takes the role of providing a commercial challenge to the executive decision-making and advising on the key business projects as the Non-Executive Director of Riverford Organic Farmers.

His expertise of bringing innovative solutions in commercial finance, employment and corporate governance matters will strengthen the work of the Finance and Performance Committee.
