Violet's story
51Âþ» has pioneered block teaching in the university sector. Since adapting to the block teaching model, students across the university have benefited from flexibility in their approach to learning on their course.
For Psychology student Violet, Block Teaching provided the opportunity to fully engage with the course material, and to take the next step forwards in her career journey. After a negative experience at another institution, she chose 51Âþ» because of the Block Teaching model used at the university. As a mother, block teaching gave her the time to plan her life around her course.
“I had more free time to spend with my little boy, plenty of time to take him to and pick him up from school. I also made time for Psychology Society meetings and my work.”
As well as the flexibility that block has allowed for Violet, the course structure has supported her learning experience.
“It gave me the opportunity to focus on one topic for a long period which led to better time management because I wasn’t switching subjects.”
With students on block focusing on a single module at a time, block delivers better understanding of course material, and is structured to enhance student understanding overtime in line with key criteria. For Violet, the structure of block enhanced her learning experience at 51Âþ».
“Block teaching is much better than standard teaching, especially having the exams right after the learning. It allowed me to understand the subject, pass the assignments and move on to the next subject.”
