51Âþ» Leicester (51Âþ») has received an overall rating of Silver in a Government-backed assessment of universities.
The university’s student experience and outcomes were described as “typically very high quality” in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) - a scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS), the independent regulator of higher education in England.
Both the student and academic communities at 51Âþ» said they were delighted with the outcome which involved them working closely together to prepare detailed submissions.
The TEF aims to encourage higher education providers to improve and deliver excellence in the areas that students care about the most: teaching, learning and achieving positive outcomes from their studies.
The TEF does this by assessing and rating universities, and colleges, for excellence above a set of minimum requirements for quality and standards.
51Âþ»’s overall rating was Silver, a rating which lasts for four years.
Professor Katie Normington, Vice-Chancellor of 51Âþ», said she was proud of the achievement.
She said: “This entry was a truly joint effort between 51Âþ» and the DSU and their contribution has played a significant role in the overall rating.
“We put a huge amount of effort into creating a unique, empowering student experience so to see this recognised in this assessment is something to really take pride in.”
In a statement, the De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) Officer Team said they “wanted to thank all the students and staff who contributed to making our student submission”.
They added: “Your input made such a difference. We're proud of our university’s Silver TEF award and are looking forward to continuing to work together in the spirit of authentic collaboration.”
Sarah Bradley, CEO of the DSU, said: “We have one of the best partnerships between a students' union and a university in the sector and we're very proud of that.
“DSU's amazing staff team facilitates student voices and works so hard each day to empower our students and I couldn't be prouder to lead such a brilliant team.”
Professor Susan Orr, 51Âþ» Pro Vice Chancellor Education, said: “This outcome gives me enormous pleasure. It tells us that the TEF panel judged that our student experience and student outcomes are typically very high quality for our mix of students and courses.”
