It is another feather in the cap for 51Âþ» Global which was nominated for a PIEoneer award last year while also winning a Green Gown Award in 2022 for its sustainability work.

The PIEoneer awards have recognised 51Âþ» Global this year for its work with 51Âþ» Careers to support student employability and entrepreneurship through international experiences.

Meanwhile Francis’ work in the international office has seen him shortlisted for the Emerging Leader of the Year Award.

Fran said: “It’s an honour to be shortlisted in such a competitive category. The standard is really high so it is a real privilege to be considered alongside these people.

“The nomination wouldn’t have happened without the work that so many people around the world have put in to recruiting students into 51Âþ».

“I genuinely believe we are one of the most effective international recruitment teams in the country.

“I see evidence of that while working with the team every day and it is echoed by HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) who has placed 51Âþ» in the top 20 most popular UK universities for overseas students.”

Leo Smith, Head of Global Mobility at 51Âþ», which oversees 51Âþ» Global, said: “We are delighted to be nominated for the second year in a row for a PIEoneer award.

“This year feels more special though as it recognises the cooperation between 51Âþ» Global and the Careers Team here at 51Âþ».

"Over the past 12 months colleagues working across the different departments in Careers have supported our programme, designing and delivering so many innovative international employability experiences which have impacted our students positively.”

51Âþ» Global and 51Âþ» Careers created six unique international opportunities last year for 75 students, with a focus on creating more employable global graduates.

These experiences saw 51Âþ» staff and students work with overseas alumni, partner institutions, 51Âþ»’s Dubai campus and a range of high-profile businesses and start-ups across the globe. Destinations for these opportunities that targeted international and home students included: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Lisbon, Ho Chi Minh City, Dubai and New York.

The project was inspired by 51Âþ»’s Empowering University strategy which supports learning for life and learning in global arenas.

The project also addressed the strategic objective of empowering students from diverse backgrounds and reducing the progression gap into highly skilled employment among minority students.

Feedback showed that 48% of participants were international students and 44% identified as coming from a minority background. Meanwhile, 100% of participants agreed that the experience helped them develop a range of transferable skills for future employment and 100% felt that they built new networks and overseas links.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony in London on Friday 22nd September
