Giving masks, gloves and other vital PPE to hospital workers

As hospitals across the UK are reporting frontline staff running short of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), 51Âþ»’s Estates team has collaborated with the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences to donate several crates of disposable masks, gloves, aprons and visors to the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The PPE is usually stocked at 51Âþ» for students studying medical sciences including Nursing and Midwifery. With the university being placed in lockdown and students now studying remotely it was decided to donate the equipment at no cost to the NHS.

51Âþ» has also helped a Chinese partner university donate 1,000 face masks to Leicester hospitals to help medical staff working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Liaoning University, in the Shenyang region of China, contacted 51Âþ» to donate the masks and 51Âþ» asked if they could pass them on to Leicester Royal Infirmary, run by the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

In a letter to 51Âþ», Liaoning leaders said during the pandemic it is important to reach out 'to strengthen solidarity and cooperation'.
