Student satisfaction growing at 51Âþ»­, new figures show


A national survey has revealed that student satisfaction at 51Âþ»­ Leicester (51Âþ»­) is higher than the UK average.

Results of the 2018 National Student Survey (NSS) gives the overall satisfaction score – an indication of how happy students are with their university experience – as 86 per cent.

This is higher than 51Âþ»­’s score of 85 per cent last year and above the national average score of 83 per cent.

The NSS asks students 27 questions, relating to eight aspects of their university experience, including teaching, academic support, learning opportunities and student voice.

The results of the survey, carried out by the Office for Students and the UK higher education funding bodies, are used by universities and colleges as well as student unions and guilds to improve students’ academic experience.

Professor Andy Collop, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at 51Âþ»­, said: “The NSS score may just be a statistic but it tells us a lot about how our students feel about their experience at 51Âþ»­.

“As a voluntary survey, it reflects with unusual honesty what students are thinking about university so this result is immensely satisfying because above all, we want to offer the best possible student experience we can.

“Students will remember their university years for the rest of their life so to know that so many of our students are this happy with their time here is hugely rewarding.”

Overall, 70 per cent of eligible students from 413 universities and colleges across the UK took time to give their feedback on their experience, with national average satisfaction at 83 per cent, compared with 84 per cent last year.

Sam Gyimah, Universities Minister, said: “The student voice is the most important voice, and the National Student Survey is a vital tool that provides an invaluable insight into the student experience.

“It is brilliant to see continually high satisfaction rates but we need to keep improving. That is why I want to see universities and colleges using this data to enhance and develop their offer for those choosing to study there.”
