The next generation of aeronautical engineers will be trained at 51Âþ» Leicester (51Âþ») as it launches a new course to meet growing industry demand.
The BEng/MEng Aeronautical Engineering course, which will begin in September 2019, has been created to meet the growing demand for high-skilled graduates in the aerospace sector.
The programme will provide experimental, computational and analytical skills required for the aviation industry and students will have the opportunity to learn from world-leading experts in the field.
Students will also benefit from state-of-the-art facilities including a professional flight simulator, a modern wind tunnel and specialist engineering software.
Course leader Dr Hobina Rajakaruna said the course will prepare students for a wide-range of roles in the field of aeronautics and aerospace industry, including development and maintenance.
“The UK aerospace industry is the biggest in Europe and the second biggest in the world with a turnover of £31 billion in 2016. It employs 95,000 people, with the greatest number of jobs in the South West and the East Midlands.
“The industry will continue to grow in the coming years and this exciting new course will allow us to train the next generation of aerospace professionals.”

The extensive range of modules on the course will provide a thorough foundation in aeronautical engineering while also covering the latest trends in the modern aeronautical industry. The major aeronautical modules will be taught by academics who are leading researchers in the field of aeronautics. For example, Professor Mikhail Goman and his colleagues are actively involved in international collaborative research in the area of aerodynamic modelling and flight simulation of critical flight conditions helping pilots to avoid loss of control in flight.
Professor David Mba, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media, said: “This new course will build on our expertise and offer new and exciting opportunities for our students.”
