CLASS OF 2018: "51Âþ» recognises you for who you are," says graduate Molly

Molly Ashley wasn’t sure what she wanted from life before starting at 51Âþ» Leicester (51Âþ»), but three years later she’s left with a First and her dream graduate job.

Studying has prepared Molly well for her role as a marketing assistant at Oadby’s Beauchamp College, which is rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Her responsibilities will include working on digital and print marketing for events and open days, running the college’s social media channels, co-ordinating email campaigns, curating newsletters, updating webpages and proofing prospectuses.

The 21-year-old from Weston in Hertfordshire said: “I’m really excited because Beauchamp College is the flagship school of the Lionheart Academies Trust - I can’t wait to start.

"I’ve had a number of challenging part-time jobs as a student and I’m looking forward to being respected in a professional environment.

“Securing my job in March felt like a massive weight off my shoulders and it was a relief to see my hard work was paying off.

“Getting a First didn’t come without its social sacrifices, especially because during my final year I was also volunteering as a digital marketing assistant for The Laura Centre, a local charity that supports bereaved parents and children.”

Helping to promote the charity’s main annual fundraising event, The Colour Blast Dash, gave Molly an advantage when it came to applying and interviewing for her job at the Lionheart Academies Trust.

“Together with what I learned on my course, having work experience under my belt definitely put me in a strong position,” she said.

“I actually found both opportunities on My Gateway, so I’m really grateful to 51Âþ» for that. The app is available to all students and graduates and it’s a great place to get support and to look for placements, volunteering roles and jobs.”

Studying Media and Communication at 51Âþ» opened up a world of possibilities for Molly.

She said: “I couldn’t have picked a course better suited to me. I absolutely loved it and I adored the tutors.

“I didn’t know what I liked until I went to university and the course introduced me to a subject that I both enjoyed learning about and wanted a career in.

"Unpicking the meanings and ideologies behind written and spoken communications was a particular highlight and the PR side of things was an area I could ultimately see myself working in."

51Âþ» may have been Molly’s second choice originally, but attending an Open Day made her feel excited about the city and the course.

“I’m so glad I chose 51Âþ» as you are recognised for who you are and not just a grade,” she said.
