51Âþ»­ outperforms national average in "vital" student survey


Students have scored 51Âþ»­ Leicester (51Âþ»­) higher than average in almost every area of a national survey.

The results of this year's National Student Survey (NSS) have been published today, and 85% of 51Âþ»­ students who took part said they were satisfied with their choice of university, which was higher than the benchmark set for the university by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), based on its mix of students and subjects.

The university was also in the top 50 universities nationally for its performance against its benchmark, and scored higher than the national average in almost all of the survey’s main areas.

The survey is the biggest of its kind and asks students across the country how they feel about a wide range of aspects of their university studies.

Among other things, questions look at teaching, opportunities to explore learning, assessment and feedback, the academic support on offer and the extent to which students feel they are listened to by university staff.

This year, 51Âþ»­ scored higher than the national average in almost every area, with significant scores in the learning resources it has, the learning community it fosters and the way it listens to students.

Professor Andy Collop, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for 51Âþ»­, said: “The NSS is a vital survey because it lets us know, really comprehensively, what students think of their experience at 51Âþ»­, what we’re doing well and how we can improve.

“What these results tell us is that in a fiercely competitive sector, 51Âþ»­ continues to satisfy its students and the fact that we are outperforming the sector average in so many areas is very rewarding feedback.
