Satisfied students give thumbs up to 51Âþ»­ business courses


Engaging lectures, high levels of support and emphasis on employability are making business students at 51Âþ»­ Leicester (51Âþ»­) among the most satisfied in the country.

In addition, students on 51Âþ»­'s economics programmes (including , , and ) rated the teaching, assessment, personal development and overall satisfaction in the country's top 10.

Final-year student James Molloy believes the results are down to the quality of teaching.

The 21-year-old said: "The course is perfectly balanced between classical economic studies and the exciting future of this subject area.

"The lecturers are fantastic! The staff make every effort to make lectures engaging while also relating the theory in books to the wider world. These and other factors contribute to students aiming for the best marks."

Parmjit Kaur, Associate Head of Economics, is delighted with the NSS results, which saw 51Âþ»­'s record 94 per cent for overall satisfaction.

She said: "This is a course that allows students to develop analytical skills though their study, which they can use to enhance their employability through opportunities such as a placement year in industry.

"The economics programme is delivered by staff dedicated to improving the employability skills of our graduates whilst supporting their development as learners in higher education."

Also faring well was 51Âþ»­'s , which scored 96 per cent for overall satisfaction.

Final-year student Kinari Shah, 22, said: "This course provides high-quality teaching and support. It offers a variety of different modules, which provide a wide range of accounting and business understanding.

"The knowledge I have gained has allowed me to successfully secure a placement year with the support of the placement unit."

The NSS data is gathered from hundreds of thousands of students in their final year at universities across the country.

Bev Vickerstaff, Associate Head of Accounting and Finance, credits the commitment of staff for the great results, which include 90 per cent overall satisfaction for the course.

She said: "They are a real testament to the commitment and inspiration of our colleagues, who demand teaching excellence of themselves throughout each academic year.

"In addition, our open door policy, which helps to create a brilliant relationship with our students, underpins the teaching excellence."
