Contour Fashion student designs corset for British Olympic athlete

Olympic heptathlete Louise Hazel recently released a new fitness regime based on the best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey, and the release of this provided some great publicity for one student who designed her corset for her photo shoot.

Natasha Chung, who studies at 51Âþ» Leicester (51Âþ»), was asked to design a corset to a peculiarly concise brief which ended up being featured by one of the country’s biggest newspapers, the Daily Mail, in their coverage of Louise Hazel’s new high intensity exercise class.

It is no wonder then that it came as quite a shock for Natasha to discover that it was a Commonwealth Games gold medal winner and member of Great Britain’s London Olympics team that her corset had been designed for.

Natasha said: “I have a friend who is a stylist that asked me to design something for a publication that looked similar to high street sports brands but was more lingerie based.

“He called me with the brief, I designed and made it within a week, sent it to him and didn’t hear anything again until I saw the pictures of it on the internet. It was a real shock to see the photos online. It was really mad how quickly it all happened.

“I later heard that Louise had really liked the corset that I made and she actually contacted me to see if there was any chance I could make some more pieces for her.

“Given that I really had to rush to get this made alongside my work in university, hearing that she really liked it made it worth all the effort, I was really pleased.”

She added: “I hope this will help me establish myself as a designer because it’s really good to be making a name for myself and hopefully having my work recognised.”

51Âþ»’s Contour Fashion course is the oldest and most successful degree-level course in intimate apparel and is widely regarded by industry experts as one of the best in the world, with students going on to work with brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Gossard and Agent Provocateur.
