Description
In this talk, I will explore how various meditation practices can significantly enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Drawing from over 15 years of personal meditation experience, I will introduce the origins of meditation and present both scientific and traditional perspectives. Focusing on practices such as mindfulness, compassion meditation, "Feeding Your Demons," and Transcendental Meditation, I will explain how these methods can effectively reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep difficulties. The presentation will highlight key empirical findings, including studies on mindfulness meditation's impact on individuals with learning challenges, ADHD, and severe speech and physical impairments. Additionally, I will present evidence showing how secular meditation practices like "Feeding Your Demons" foster self-compassion, build self-confidence and self-reliance, and shift how individuals perceive and understand their challenges - helping them trust in their own capacity and wisdom to address
