Ronnie Smyth graduated from 51Âþ»­ with a First Class Honours in Forensic Computing. During that time he also worked for CY4OR as a Forensic Computing Technician. This involved working on a variety of cases for the Met police, HMRC and private investigations. The role involved the extraction of digital evidence from a variety of media including personal computer, mobile phones and servers both from a secure lab and whilst working on site.

He is currently lecturing on the undergraduate module “Essentials of Forensic Computing and Security.”  

He is a member of the Royal Corp of Signals where he is a part of 38 Strategic Communications Signals Regiment. This involves the transmitting of encrypted data for UK operations to provide essential communications for central government at times of crisis.  
His research interests include physical extraction of data,the attribution problem and vehicle security.

He is a member of the IEEE and Leicester Amateur Radio Society.
Whenever possible he volunteers at the National Museum of Computing, based at Bletchly Park.
