Personal profile

Rachel studied Literature and Film at Southampton, followed by a Master’s Degree from Warwick University in Film and Television (with AHRC Scholarship). Rachel worked for ten years as film producer, both as an owner of a multi-award-winning production company and then as a freelancer, working for clients including the BFI, Creative England, and Tiger Aspect Productions on film and prime-time TV drama. Rachel has won several film commissions from the UK Film Council, which became award-winning short films, and has co-produced a feature film with a BAFTA nominated director.

Alongside producing, Rachel also worked as a freelance script reader/assessor and consultant for clients including iFeatures and Creative England. Rachel has trained in producing with the BBC, and in script development with The Script Factory. Rachel has been awarded two Royal Television Society awards for Production Craft as a Producer, and Best Short Film (2009, Midlands).

Rachel entered Higher Education teaching as a Guest Lecturer and Assessor for the MA in Creative and Media Enterprises at Warwick University, before becoming a full time Lecturer in Film Production at 51Âþ»­, where she is Programme Leader for the MA in International Film Production. Rachel is also External Examiner for the BA Film Production at Salford University, and peer reviewer for Performance Matters (Simon Fraser University).

Research interests/expertise

Research interests include; UK cinema exhibition culture during the silent era/WW1, women working in producing, script editing and production design roles, the craft of film producing, and the creative development process for emerging talent breaking into the film industry.
