Personal profile

Experienced commercial airline captain (Airbus A330) with a background in Air and Space Law and Computational Physics. Currently contributing to a major international project, SafeMode, in which 51Âþ»­ is a critical academic partner. Providing consultancy on all aspects of flight operations to 51Âþ»­ to facilitate their role within the SafeMode project. This involves liaising with inter-disciplinary teams comprising, engineers, physicists, psychologists, air traffic controllers, pilots and regulators.

Part-time lecturer in Human Factors and Flight Safety on the BEng/MEng in Aeronautical Engineering.

Research interests/expertise

Investigation and prevention of Loss of Control Inflight (LOC-I). Combining operational experience as a commercial long-haul airline captain with academic experience in computational modelling. Adept at using simulation to design experimental trials of pilot procedures.
