Kaushika is the Interim Dean for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at 51Âþ»­ (51Âþ»­), and has been in academia since 2007. 

Kaushika Patel is a qualified social worker and practice assessor with over 17 years’ experience working with children and young people in settings ranging from children’s community homes, child protection units through to young offenders and now higher education.

Her research interests include criminal justice with a specific focus on young offenders and their experiences within the criminal justice system especially those experiences of young females and ‘black’ young people and also an interest in the transition of black young people into higher education especially for those who may be first generation HEI students and their experiences of university life and academia.
