I have 9 years expereince working in science and healthcare regulation at the Health and Safety Executive (regulatory toxicology), Public Health England (cervical screening) and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority as an inspector of fertility clinics and research laboratories, working extensively on the regulation of mitochondrial donation and gene editing.
I joined 51Âþ» in 2017 as Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science with a focus on reproductive sciences and bioethics. I was programme lead for the BSc Biomedical Science Course leading the course through IBMS reaccreditation, and Deputy Chair of the Clinical Sciences Programme Management Board. I held the position of Faculty Head of Research Ethics between 2018-2021, chairing the Faculty Research Ethics Committee. I remain a member of a Health Research Authority (HRA) Research Ethics Committee (REC).
In 2021 I moved to Research Services Directorate leading the Research Governance Team with a broad remit including research ethics and integrity, research governance (including NHS sponsor requirements), open research, research impact, and project and data compliance.
