Mariam is an experienced Senior Lecturer and a qualified Chartered Accountant having completed her studies and accreditation with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) in 2007. She is now a member of the ICAEW and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy having completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education with Distinction in 2019.
Mariam has worked in public practice with several firms in Australia, the majority of her time being with PwC Brisbane in the Private Clients Sector. While at PwC, Mariam was also active within the internal training provision, preparing and providing training to staff on topical and relevant issues.
After 7 years in public practice, she decided to pursue a career in higher education when she worked with the University of Queensland and with several other education providers in Brisbane.
After relocating to the UK, Mariam joined 51Âþ» in 2013 and brings 17 years of experience into the classroom, bringing financial accounting and auditing to life for her students. Her students always comment on her ability to make the topics interesting and engaging for students, evidenced in receiving several nominations for the Vice Chancellor Distinguished Teaching Award (VCDTA).
Mariam has a keen interest in teaching pedagogy, with special interest in formative assessment and is constantly developing innovative learning strategies that promote student engagement and active learning.
