Personal profile

I am Associate Professor of International Tourism and Hospitality Management at De Monfort University where I lead the subject area of Tourism and Hospitality and the BA (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management.
I have published across a range of themes in tourism and related fields of studies. My publications also include the co-edited books 'An Introduction to Visual Research Methods in Tourism' (2012, with D. Chambers), 'Narratives of Travel and Tourism' (2012, with J. Tivers), 'Travel, Tourism and Art' (2013, with J-A. Lester), 'Tourism Research Frontiers' (2015, with D. Chambers), and two journal special issues 'Gender and Tourism' (2018, with D. Chambers) and 'Visual Methods in Event Studies' (2019, with T. Pernecky). Inspired by the power of creative research outputs in reaching audiences beyond the academic, I had (co-) produced two documentaries. The research projects I am currently working on also include a co-curated exhibition (with M. Hanžek), and a co-edited journal special issue 'Visual Turn in Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure Research' (with M. Lexhagen and S. Volo).
I am currently the Chair the Geographies of Tourism and Leisure Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society, co-editor of the Routledge book series 'Current Developments in the Geographies of Leisure and Tourism' (with J.-A. Lester) and a member of journal editorial boards for Tourist Studies; Tourism Geographies; International Journal of Tourism Cities; Finnish Journal of Tourism Research; and Consumer Behaviour in Tourism and Hospitality.
I am an experienced PhD supervisor, and welcome PhD applications related to my areas of expertise.
